Dorothy A. Millspaugh's Obituary
Dorothy Ann Millspaugh passed away on November 28, 2018 at the age of 90.
Born on January 8, 1928 at Coleman Hospital for Women in Indianapolis, Indiana to Adam Stanley Zlotkowski and Bercha Evitts Zlotkowski, Dorothy was the 2nd of 3 sisters. She attended both Lawton High School and Cameron College in Lawton, OK, and Tacoma Community College, where she pursued her passion for art. She worked as a technical illustrator for the Civil Service and as a commercial artist.
Dorothy married Vesper Millspaugh on September 20, 1947 at Centenary Methodist Church in Lawton, OK, and was pregnant with her first child when Vesper left to serve in the Korean War in 1949. While Vesper was a POW, having been captured at the battle of the Chosin Reservoir, Dorothy never lost faith that her husband would return. She raised her daughter with the help of her parents while praying for her husband's safety. Her prayers were answered when Vesper returned home, after 4 years, and met their daughter, Barbara, for the first time. Dorothy's first son, Vesper Duane Jr was born 9 months later. Another son, Steven, followed 18 months later, and Mark in another 5 years.
Dorothy was a lifelong Methodist, though attended non-denominational Protestant churches on Post at most of their duty stations. Before and after retirement, Dorothy and her husband, Vesper, were both avid, low handicap golfers. Dorothy enjoyed staying active and spending time with her 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Vesper, and both of her sisters. She is survived by her 4 children, Barbara (Mike) Wittren, Duane (Jann) Millspaugh, Steven (Debbie) Millspaugh, and Mark (Cristina) Millspaugh. Services will be held Friday December 7, 2018 at 2pm at Gig Harbor Methodist Church.
