Dorothy L. Lind A full life of 90 years was rewarded with a peaceful and final trip on November 26, 2016 in Puyallup, WA. Dorothy was born in Newcastle, CA June 22, 1926. She attended Seaside Elementary School, Walter Colton Jr. High, and Monterey High School in Monterey, CA. She attended College of Pacific in Stockton, CA, majoring in Music and Business Administration. Dorothy was a featured vocalist on KGDM CBS radio station in Stockton, CA, and was featured with Ziggy Elman's band at Stockton Airfield during the war. She toured with USO shows on the West Coast during World War II, and sang at War Bond Rallies, military installations, shipyards, and defense plants. She was a violinist in the Stockton Symphony Orchestra for 6 years. She met and married T/Sgt Henry H Lind November 7, 1948, and moved to Fort Lewis. They retired from the Army in 1963 and made their home in Lakewood, WA, raising their 3 children, Marty, Michael, and Cindy. During their life in Tacoma Dorothy was a staff accountant for Johnson, Paulson and Stolz and Ernst and Ernst. In 1973 she opened her own accounting practice. She and Henry were owners of "Oh Henry's Ice Cream and Sandwich Shop" in Lakewood, and Evergreen Beer Distributorship of Olympia. Dorothy was a member of Laureate Beta Sigma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi since 1953, Past President of Tacoma City Council Beta Sigma Phi, Alpha Iota Sorority, Tacoma Elks, Lady Elks Golf Team, Pilgrim Lutheran Church, and a proud Army wife. She was an avid golfer and loved to travel. Dorothy survived her husband of 52 years and her birth family of her parents, 4 brothers and 4 sisters, along with her first son Martin Lind. She is survived by her son Michael (Sherry), daughter Cindy (Jay) Peterson, granddaughters Natalie (Mike) Firestine, Angie (Aaron) Null, and Elizabeth Peterson, grandsons Brandon Karlson and Jens Peterson, and great-grandchildren Macie and Riley Firestine and Brayden and Carson Null. A Celebration of Life will take place at Tacoma Country and Golf Club on Friday, January 13, 2017, at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association.
