Dorothy Ann Kowalski's Obituary
Dorothy Ann (Mackenzie) Kowalski, 86, passed away peacefully in her home on February 20th, 2016, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Tacoma on April 7th, 1929 to Alexander MacKenzie and Leona May Aubry, Dorothy spent her life in the Tacoma area. Growing up, Dorothy spent time working in her father’s pharmacy and enjoying family vacations at Steilacoom lake. As a teen, Dorothy was a proud graduate of Stadium High School and went on to study at the University of Washington. After being set up on a blind date, Dorothy met and fell in love with William Kowalski and they married on December 28th, 1949. Over the course of their marriage, they were blessed with six children: Bill, Ken, Joanne, Patty, Stan and Warren. In addition to her children, Dorothy was also a proud grandmother to six granddaughters: Kelly, Meagan, Alissa, Ashley, Mackenzie, and Sarah; and an even prouder great grandmother to Devon and Larkin. Dorothy enthusiastically took part in the Retired Policeman’s luncheons, and was a fixture at every family party.
Above all, Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was known for her smile, her sense of humor and her love of adventure. Dorothy was loved by everyone who knew her, and she made the world a better place simply by being in it. She will forever hold a special place in the hearts of her family and friends, and words cannot describe how greatly she will be missed.
A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, March 6th, at 1 p.m., with a graveside service and reception to follow. A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 5th from 1-6 p.m.
