Dorothy Iva Kephart's Obituary
We come together to celebrate the beautiful life of Dorothy Iva Kephart, a beacon of inspiration and compassion who filled our lives with warmth. Born on July 8, 1938 in Wenatchee, WA, Dorothy graduated from Stadium High School in 1955 and worked at Gunderson's Jewelry Store in downtown Tacoma. In 1962 she married Albert Kephart and moved to the Fife Heights area to start a family. Dorothy worked in the box office at the Tacoma Little Theatre, and then became a bookkeeper for Frank Russell. She also sewed costumes for the theatre and opera, and was elected the Commissioner of Fire District 10 in Fife. Dorothy had a passion for geneaology which displayed her determination to connect generations together and preserve cherished family history.
Dorothy's home was frequently a place of gathering for her family. A countless number of memories were made there while celebrating family milestones, birthdays and holidays. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed sharing her passion for sewing, baking and gardening with the ones she loved. Additionally, Dorothy had an affinity for philanthropy, loved her cats, and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
Dorothy treasured her family and will be lovingly remembered by her sons Joseph and John Kephart, her granddaughter Chloe Kephart, and many beloved family members and friends. She is reunited with her spouse Albert,who passed in 2002.
A supportive and gentle listener, she touched many lives with her caring spirit. As we remember Dorothy, we celebrate a life beautifully lived, a life that brought sunshine, creativity and love into the hearts of everyone she knew.
Dorothy passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025 in University Place, WA, leaving behind a legacy of joy and compassion which continues to inspire us all.
