Dorothy Jean Byrne's Obituary
Port Townsend resident, Dorothy Jean Byrne, 89, died June 30, 2006, in Bremerton, WA.Born Dec. 19, 1916 to John and Teressa (Taylor) Youk, in Tacoma, WA, where she was raised and graduated from high school.On Feb. 5, 1945, she married Gordon Byrne in Bremerton, WA. She was happily married almost 60 years.Dorothy and Gordon lived in Alaska for 10 years after World War II. She clerked at a department store during this time. Dorothy moved back to Washington in 1952. Dorothy worked as a clerk for various businesses in Tacoma and Bremerton. She also worked in the family store for several years before retiring. She was a hard worker, as well as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In 1967, she moved from Tacoma to Port Ludlow for her retirement years. She and her husband had many years of travel during that time. In 2003, after the passing of her husband, she moved from Port Ludlow to Port Townsend.Survivors include her daughter Eileen S. Redden of Lillooet, British Columbia, Canada; son Kenneth G. Byrne and his wife, Lynn, of Bremerton, WA; five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Byrne, sister Eloise Babbitt, and one grandchild Buddy Redden.The graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM on July 7, 2006 at Mountain View Memorial Park in Tacoma, WA. Pastor Gary Cox will be the officiator. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to a charity of your choice.
