Dorothy L. "Dodo" Jarmon's Obituary
Dorothy Lorraine (Peterson) Jarmon was born in Tacoma on April 6, 1926. She was proud of being a straight ‘A’ student, gym leader, and attaining the highest level as a Girl Scout when she graduated from Stadium High School.
She married her first love, Lt James L. Jarmon of the United States Army Air Corps, in 1944. While her darling Jimmy flew 50 missions during WWII as a B-17 pilot, she was a riveter for Boeing, working on the dorsal fins of B-17 and B-29 aircraft. Their favorite musical was South Pacific.
After the war, they settled in Fircrest and raised four children. Dorothy was the president of the Fircrest Garden Club for many years and her yard was featured in the Fircrest Rhody Tour. Her favorite rhododendron, Loderi Venus, was taller than her house.
Dorothy was the heart of our family. She was the most wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. We will forever remember her beautiful smile and happy spirit. She was artistic and creative, her home was always decked out for the holidays. She dearly enjoyed entertaining and feeding anyone who visited her home. She would whip up a meal at any hour, and always had a jar of homemade cookies at the ready.
Dorothy and Jim were married 60 happy years before his death in 2004. It comforts us to know that their spirits are now reunited. She is also preceded in death by her parents, A.O. and Gretchen Peterson, and by her beloved sister Lois and brother-in-law Ron.
She is survived by all four of her children: One daughter, Jill Zajac, and three sons, Jon, Jeff (Pam), and Jay (Dessa) Jarmon. She was an incredible grandmother to Meggan, Jamie, Jenna, Nick, Charlie, Sydney, and Sophie. We’re glad she got to see and hold her only great grandchild, Betty Lorraine, who was named for her.
Dorothy passed away on December 2, 2018 at the age of 92. Our hearts ache, but our minds and hearts are filled with memories of her loving ways, the happiness and kindness she displayed each and every day. Always loved, never forgotten, forever missed.
Memorial Services will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home in the Celebration of Life Center, Aspen Chapel on Friday December 21st at 2:00.
Many thanks to the wonderful caregivers and Life Enrichment Department at the Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community who made her part of their family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Mary Bridge Children’s Foundation in her name.
