Dorothy I. James' Obituary
April 25th, 2015, Dorothy Iman James joined her husband, Major George (Jim) R. James in Heaven. Born September 1, 1921 in Raymond, WA, she was a descendent of 1850’s pioneers of the Oregon Territories and she carried on their adventurous spirit throughout her life. Post WWII, she lived in Shanghai, China and Japan and as an Army wife, lived across the USA. Settling in Lakewood, WA, she entered Civil Service and was the Secretary to the Commanding General(s) at Fort Lewis for over 20 years. Dorothy and Jim raised two eternally grateful sons, Randolph (Rand) and Michael (wife Melanie) and later took in foreign exchange students and others that needed guidance. Together, they were “parents” to many. Dorothy also leaves behind her sister Dixie (Mike) Smith of Southbend, WA, grandson Miles and great grand-daughter Phoebe, and many nieces and nephews. She was a lifelong member of Beta Sigma Phi and an active member St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Lakewood.
Known for her kindness (except by the dog when he ate the Christmas roast off the table) and her graciousness, we ask that, in her memory and in lieu of flowers, just go out and be kind and gracious to others.
