Dorothy G. Carlson's Obituary
Dorothy G Carlson Longtime Lakewood resident Dorothy Carlson passed away peacefully in Everett, WA. on November 21, 2008. Born November 25, 1909, on the family farm in Wenatchee, Dorothy lived a full life, making and keeping friends wherever she went. In her early years, Dorothy rode her horse to a one room school house. She graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1927 and was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of WSU. She married Harry (Rudy) Carlson in 1932. After a time working in New York City, they settled in Seattle where their two daughters were born. Following a 6-year sojourn in the San Francisco Bay Area, Rudy's employer, United Pacific Insurance, moved them back to Tacoma where Dorothy remained until 2000 when she sold her home on DeKoven Drive to reside near daughter Julie in Marysville, WA. Dorothy maintained a beautiful garden, volunteered for the American Red Cross, led Girl Scouts, was a docent at Northwest Trek, and carried on a remarkable correspondence. She was an avid reader, a nd was a Friend of the Lakewood Library. She appreciated fine art, music and poetry, knew the names of wildflowers and birds, and took joy in the people who crossed her path, always bringing out the best in them. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy, in 1980, and her grandson Michael Langabeer in 2006. Survivors include daughters Julie (Kent) Langabeer, Linda (Tom) Sweetman, grandchildren Erica Sweetman, Rebecca (Ed) Strisower, and Sally (Allen) Price; and five great-grandsons: Austin, Nathan, Alex, Colby and Owen. The family appreciates the care and kindness she received from the staff and residents of Grandview Village and Serenity Adult Home during the last 1 U years of her life. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at The Little Church on the Prairie, 6310 Motor Ave., Lakewood (Tacoma), WA, 98499. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to a charity of one's choice.
