Dorothy E. Davis' Obituary
Dorothy E. Davis
At the age of 93, and while being prayed for with her family by her side, Mom closed her eyes and went from earth to glory on Nov. 12, 2011. "Too blessed to be stressed!" was her saying. Dorothy was born Feb. 14, 1918 in Hillsdale, KS to Clarence and Nealy Davis. She attended elementary school and graduated from high school in Paola, KS, and attended Kansas University. She was a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Paola as a youth, and there accepted Jesus and was baptized. When she moved to L.A., CA, she met and married her soul mate and lover for over 60 years, Will Joe Davis. He was enlisted in the US Navy, and moved them to Bremerton, WA, where they later relocated to Tacoma. From this union was added a daughter, Susan Jo Davis, a dearly-loved and devoted adopted daughter, Martha Davis, and godchildren Wanda (Wayne) and Wardell Canada. The Davis family joined Bethlehem Baptist Church in 1942, and Mom grew to love her church family. She was involved in Sunday School, Willing Workers, BYPU, and she founded their Nurses Corps. She was a PM life member of Olympic Chapter #2, OES PHA, and she was a PGLLR and last of the original 14 Loyal Ladies of Washington/Oregon State Grand Assembly, Order of the Golden Circle. She retired from St. Joseph Hospital as an LPN in orthopedics, and volunteered at various hospitals and McCarver School. She will be remembered for how she freely loved people and she loved helping people become successful. The family thanks the staff at Manor Care Tacoma, and Dr. Steven Stringfellow, Tacoma Internal Medicine for the great care administered to her. Viewing at Mountain View Cemetery will be on Monday, Nov. 21 from noon to 7pm, with the Golden Circle Service at 7pm. Funeral and Eastern Star services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011 at 11am at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 4818 Portland Ave., Tacoma, Rev. F.S. Rhoades officiating. Interment at Mountain View and repass at Bethlehem. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home.
