Dorothy Mary Carey
January 3, 1938 - January 3, 2018
Dorothy passed away at her home in Olympia, WA on her 80th birthday. She was born and raised in Palmer, MA. She moved to Chicopee, MA, then to Albuquerque, NM, then to DuPont, WA, and finally settled in Olympia, WA. She was employed by the State of Washington for many years, and retired in the early 2000's. She was an avid reader and a member of The Page Turners Book Club. She loved watching the news, and QVC on TV. She loved cats and had several who kept her company. She graduated from Palmer High School in 1955. Right after graduation she worked in the office of Attorney James Duffy in Palmer. She attended the Second Congregational Church while she resided in Palmer.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Frank W. Carey Jr. and Mildred (Kupiec) Carey of Palmer, and her sister Gwendolyn Marshall of Palmer.
She leaves a brother Frank W. Carey III and his wife Beryle of Monson, MA; a daughter Rebecca Dufrin of Steilacoom, WA; a son Rodney Dufrin from the Philippines; two granddaughters Jennifer Whited and her husband Joshua Whited from Tacoma, WA; Jessica Coker and her partner Michelle Akucharski from Tacoma, Wa; and four great-grandchildren Katherine, Zachary, Conner, and Roman all from WA.
A gathering for friends and family in honor of Dorothy will be held 1:00PM, Friday, March 9, 2018 in the Oak Room at Mountain View Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Lakewood.
