Dorothy J. Amspacker's Obituary
Born in Burlington, Vermont, she was the youngest of six children, born to her parents Joseph Gratton and Irene (Sanborn) Gratton. She grew up in a Catholic Orphanage from a young age, until she headed off to live with her aunt and uncle in California at the age of 16.
Dorothy was discharged from the Army in 1952 and followed her husband as they moved from station to station. They lived in Colorado, Washington DC, France, and had multiple rotations between Washington state and Germany.
She and the family finally ended up settling in Washington state when her husband’s final military assignments brought them to Madigan Army Medical Center and Fort Lewis. After working various jobs as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Dorothy settled into working as a CNA in labor and delivery at Madigan for several years. She was known as the short lady that walked fast around the clinic. She finally decided to leave the work force and spent more time with the family and children.
Harold and Dorothy raised five children of their own after losing one child during infancy; and opened their home to two foster children. Dorothy provided a loving home, providing support for all.
Dorothy passed away on 4 May 2025 from kidney failure. She is joining her deceased husband, sisters, brothers, and sons Gabriel, Daniel, and Samuel in peace.
Dorothy will be remembered and loved by her surviving family members:
Michael Amspacker – Son
Dorette (Amspacher) Henry – Daughter
Donna (Amspacher) Huntwork - Daughter
