Doris M. Grubb's Obituary
Doris Nielsen, formerly Doris Lichte Grubb, found everlasting peace on June 17, 2006 in Olympia, Washington. She was born on July 6, 1917 in Ontario, Canada, and spent much of her youth in Tacoma, where she graduated from Lincoln High School. She married Sam Grubb and raised four children. She worked as a secretary, childrenÂ's librarian, and Â"story ladyÂ" on a local television show in Klamath Falls, OR. She later became a puppeteer and taught puppetry to countless children in schools and hospitals. She also performed in the original Muppet Movie. She was widowed in 1979.In 1992, she married Norris Nielsen, who preceded her in death. For the past ten years, she lived at Panorama City, a retirement center in Olympia. There she met John Turbitt, a special friend who provided love, laughter and companionship that enriched the last three years of her life.She is survived by her four children Â- Sam Grubb, Sally Carpenter, Nancy Richardson, and Jill Severn, by eight grandchildren , five (soon to be six) great-grandchildren, and by John Turbitt.An inurnment service will be held at 3:30 pm on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at Mountain View Funeral Home in Tacoma. Following the service, there will be a celebration of her life at the home of her daughter Sally Carpenter in Olympia. Directions to the celebration will be distributed at the service.In lieu of flowers, it was DorisÂ's wish that contributions be made to Faith Homes, an Episcopal Church-sponsored organization that operates group homes for young girls and women. Faith Homes address is 3519 S. 30th Street, Tacoma, WA 98409.
