Doris Lavina Urdahl's Obituary
Doris Urdahl, age 91, died peacefully July 15 at Manorcare Gig Harbor where she had resided for the past four years. Cherished wife of the late Arthur Urdahl, Doris was born in Tacoma March 18, 1917 to Hertha (Miethke) and Alfred Perry both Washington pioneers. In the 1930's the family moved to Horsehead Bay where Doris's father built their homeand a school for the community. Both are still standing today. Doris was a member of the 1936 class of Gig Harbor Union High. Married in 1938, Doris and Arthur made their home in Lakewood on a large estate where Arthur was head caretaker. Doris enjoyed her many years as a caregiver and friend to a Lakewood family. A longtime member of the Little Church on the Prairie, Doris taught Sunday School and later served on various church boards. After retirement Raft Island was home for more than 23 years where friends and family played an important role. Doris was an accomplished seamstress and skilled gardener, her yard the envy of many. Survivors include her two daughters Nancy Hansen of Port Orchard and Judy Kimura of New York City; three grandchildren John Hansen of Mill Creek, Julia Ednie of Kirkland and Casey Kimura of New York City; five great grand-children Hazel and Megan Hansen and Madeleine, Maya and Haley Ednie. In addition she leaves behind numerous relatives and friends in the area. Doris will be missed by all and loved forever by all who had the opportunity to know her. We are very proud of her life. Services will be held July 24, 11:00 AM at the Little Church on the Prairie, 6310 Motor Avenue, Lakewood. Donations may be made in memory of Doris to Franciscan Hospice, 2901 Bridgeport Way West, University Place WA 98466.
