Doris A. Brosnan's Obituary
Doris Ann Brosnan, a caring, gracious and kind mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on December 1, 2015, at the age of 89.
Born in Sprague, Washington, Doris grew up on a wheat farm in Eastern Washington. She skipped two grades and graduated from Cheney High School at the age of 16. Doris graduated from Washington State College several weeks before her 20th birthday. While at Washington State, she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.
She began her career teaching history at Selah High School. In Selah, she met her husband, Don. After their marriage, she stayed home to raise her children. In 1965, Don formed a CPA firm and Doris began a second career, teaching PE at West Valley High School.
Doris and Don were among the founding members of the Yakima Tennis Club. YTC was the center of their social life and Doris continued to play tennis into her 80's. Doris loved to play bridge and she and Don traveled extensively. They especially enjoyed their yearly trips to Maui, often with children and grandchildren.
Doris was active in the Memorial Hospital Guild, First Presbyterian Church and AAUW.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Don, and beloved son, David.
Doris will be dearly missed by her three children: Susan (Brian) Kelly, Don (Chris) Brosnan, Jr., and Nancy Brosnan. She is survived by five grandchildren, Tim Kelly, Mike, Jeff, and Joe Brosnan, and Mackenzie (Justin) Neally. She also leaves four step-grandsons, Dan and Dave Barrett, and Damien and John Heenan and six great-grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Doris put her family first and herself last. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit and her kind and generous ways. Her grandchildren gave her great joy and she remained active in all of their lives until her final days.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Macular Degeneration Partnership at AMD.org or to sightconnection.org.
