Doris A. Nielsen Doris A. Nielsen, 89, of Lakewood, Washington, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009 at her residence. Doris was born December, 11, 1919, in Seattle, Washington. Doris and her beloved husband, Axel, were married June 24, 1941. Doris worked with Axel in the baking industry throughout her working career. She was a talented, creative cake decorator. The only time they were apart was during World War Two and since Axel's passing in 2003. Doris retired in 1986. Together Doris and Axel built a 40-foot, wooden schooner, "The Robert L." They launched the boat in 1986, and it is still being sailed by her family. Doris was a loving wife to Axel for 62 years and dedicated herself to her family and friends. Doris is survived by her son, Larry; daughters, Shirley Pollock and Jeanne Wohlford; six grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. The memorial service to celebrate Doris's life will be held at the United Lutheran Church, 1231 South 76th St., Tacoma, Washington. The service will be held on Tuesday, March 10 at 1:00 p.m. A reception will be held at the church following the service. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers.
