Dora Tempel's Obituary
Dora Nelson Tempel was born in Birmingham, Alabama on May 2, 1932.
She passed peacefully from this life on November 27, 2013 in Tacoma, Washington. She was 81 years old. Dora graduated from Woodlawn High School.
She worked as a secretary for Prudential Insurance Company before meeting and marrying her husband, Air Force Lieutenant Don Temple.
Dora was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lakewood. She was also a member of The Little Church on the Prairie for many busy years. She participated in Presbyterian Women and in several circles in the Church. She loved to work in the quilting circle. Before her infirmities overcame her, she was in the process of making quilts for each of her seven grandchildren. Over a period of thirty years as an Air Force wife she participated in many Officers’ Wives Club activities. Dora was a proud parent and a meticulous housewife. For nearly thirty years she carried out the duties of a military wife, meeting the many problems and separations that such a career entails, with compassion and love.
Dora is survived by her husband of 61 years Don. She is also survived by two daughters, Debi and Susan, two sons, Mark and David, as well as seven grandchildren: Rosanne, Valerie, Arik, Kelsey, Ashley, Layla and Derick; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dora was preceded in death by her parents John and Mae Nelson, brother Burl and two sisters Eloise and Nelva.
Memorials may be made to any of several organizations working in research on dementia and Alzheimer’s. The family wishes to thank the many dedicated and professional staff members of Cascade Park Gardens, Allenmore Hospital and Franciscan Hospice. These folks worked very hard to ease Dora’s last days.
