Donelly E. Channing's Obituary
DONELLY ELDEN CHANNING Don was born August 15, 1922 to Winnie and Howard Channing in Florence, Oregon. He passed away peacefully on March 28, 2008 surrounded by his family. He is survived by Pat, his wife of 62 years, daughters Bonnie (Neal) Forrester and Susan (Pete) Harum, twin sister Dorothy Thompson, brother Cecil and grandchildren Jim Forrester, Carole Sylliaasen, Katherine, Allison, Amanda and Michael Harum. He was preceded in death by his son Michael. Don grew up in Orting, Wa. He was prominent in athletic and school affairs and was class speaker at graduation. He enjoyed all sports, especially basketball and football. Later, golf became his favorite sport and he was pleased when he made a hole-in-one, which he did on three separte occasions. He enjoyed playing the piano, boating and fishing. He and Pat made many trips to the San Juan Islands, Westport and Ilwaco. During World War II he spent eleven months in the South Pacific as a Navy pilot. Later he became an air traffic controller and worked at Sea-Tac and McChord AFB. He retired in 1978. He had a good sense of humor, was a great friend and loving husband, father and grandfather. Services will be held at Mt. View Funeral Home (584-0252) in the Garden Chapel in Lakewood at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 5.
