Donella Penton is my younger sister. It grieves me to know she is no longer walking amongst her family and friends who she so dearly loved. But, she will remain in our hearts to the end of our days.
I will miss her calming voice and presence. She had a way of calming a room she entered that was her super power.

Please accept my deepest and sincere condolences on the loss of Donella Penton. I met Donella when she, and her then husband Robert, first came to Tacoma as VISTA volunteers. They helped to change the course of my life. I was 14 years old and Donella became an important mentor for me. She took the time to get to know me and my family, I trusted her. She convinced me that having integrity, determination and compassion for others was more important than the fact that my family did not have money. Donella, along with my mother, taught me that being poor had nothing to do with my value as a human being. She encouraged me to aim high and I ultimately went on to have much success in life. She was a powerful person in my life, and I will forever be grateful for her guidance and care.
