Donald Gene Kitt's Obituary
Donald Gene Kitt, age 96 a long time Tacoma resident passed away Thursday December 12th 2024. Don was born on March 20, 1928 in Seattle Washington. He was the oldest of three children of Donald and Alameda Kitt. He met his wife Alice at Central Washington University and married after college. They both majored in education and Don taught in the Tacoma School District. He also proudly served in the Air Force after college until 1955.
Don was a Great Grandfather, Grandpa, loving father, big brother and wonderful husband. From making “Super Duper” breakfast to taking family to Hood Canal, running kids everywhere, showing up to every: baseball game, basketball game, track meet, and music concerts. He was always quick with a bad pun and a bop on the nose.
The only thing he loved as much as family was nature and sports. He was an avid hiker and fisherman, even into his late 80’s. He was in his element hiking with friends, family and his dog. He had a garden of flowers that brightened the yard and house. When he wasn’t outside you could find him in his recliner cheering on the Mariners and Seahawks.
He was an adored middle school teacher and was track coach for many years. He also coached outside of the school system, whether it was summer track or baseball or whatever his kids were into.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Alice in 1996, his parents Donald and Alameda Kitt, and his brother Loren Kitt. His surviving relatives are: Janet Boyle (daughter) of Olympia, WA, Darrell Kitt (son) of Gig Harbor, WA, Karen Geels (daughter) of Fort Wayne, IN, and his sister Janice Spangler of Tacoma, WA. He has four grandchildren: Joni Gaines, Darci Lugo, James Kitt, and Lily Boyle. He has four great grandchildren, Isabel Lugo, Eva Lugo, Emily Fiel and Masie Kitt.
Don’s giving nature, sense of humor and love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
