Donald E. Grimes' Obituary
Donald Edward Grimes, 82 passed away Saturday August 12,2017.
He leaves sons, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Born and raised in rural Alabama, the son of Moses and Lena Grimes he had many travels eventually settling down in Tacoma,WA.
In his early years he grew up on a self-sustaining farm in Elba, AL. After graduating from high school he attended Auburn University for 1 year before enlisting in the Air Force.
He spent the first 11 years of his tour overseas in Japan. This is where he met Atsuko Saito. They were married at the Tokyo Embassy in Tokyo Japan in 1950.
Dad served in U.S.A.F for 16 years briefly living in the Federal Way area - before settling in Tacoma, WA. It was here that he worked for the Boeing Company eventually retiring after 30 years of service.
Having a love of animals and walking, “Don” walked with his 2 dogs before they ‘retired’ and he could finally take a long – needed break.
Don was also a lifelong member of the SGI. One of his values was making people happy. I would see him quietly working behind the scenes most of the time helping people.
Services for Donald will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2017. Interment 10:00 AM at Mountain View Funeral Home & Memorial Park. Followed by a 1:00 PM Memorial Service at Soka Gakkai International (SGI) Buddhist Center in Tacoma.
