Donald French Burd's Obituary
Born May 18, 1918 in Linnius, Missouri, passed away suddenly on July 5, 2003. Don moved from Missouri to Ontario, Oregon in 1936. During World War II he served overseas for 3½ years in a tank battalion. Following the war, he worked on his familyÂ's farm until 1951 when he married Winifred (Leffler) and moved to Puyallup, Washington. From 1958 he worked for the Tacoma School District as a Chief Custodian. In 1975 the Tacoma PTA awarded him the Golden Acorn Award for outstanding service. He retired in 1980, and fulfilled his dream of traveling the United States in his 5th wheel RV.Don was a devoted family man, with a quiet and loving nature. He always had a positive outlook on life and found happiness in simple pleasures. He was especially proud of his four grandchildren, Jessica and Daniel McNeill, and Ellen and Stephanie Burd. Don will be deeply missed by Winifred, his wife of 52 years; son, David (Gina); and daughter, Lindi (Rian).Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. at Mt.
