Donald Alexander Curtis' Obituary
On the 7th of August 2022, Donald Alexander Curtis, of Tacoma Washington, passed away at the age of 81 years.
Donald will be remembered by his wife of 47 years, Norris Ann Curtis; Children: Denise R. Curtis, Donna Curtis, Cathy (Sylvester) Clark, Carmen Earl Jay (Laurel) Johnson, and Delisa (Chad P.) Kinlow; Grandchildren: Desi Boozer, Jr., Christopher Boozer, Tanzania Pillow, Tony Curtis, Shawna Bennett, Serena Clark, Salese Clark, Shandi Stone, Nicholas McCallister, Terrell Johnson, Meloni Johnson, Airemus Kinlow, Chynah Kinlow, Chad A. Kinlow; Great-grandchildren: Camille Boozer, Andreas Boozer, Lamonte Curtis, Corey Curtis, Latrice Pillow, Miranda Curtis, Tracy Curtis, Keyshawn Curtis, Joanna Curtis, Olivia Curtis, Raquel Bordy, LaTeasia Bordy, Sh’Cory McLemore, Cory McLemore, Lionna Stone, and twins soon to come; Great-great grandchildren: Kehlani Curtis; Siblings: Muraline Miller, Shirley Jackson. As well as numerous relatives and friends.
Donald was predeceased by- Siblings: Earl Curtis, Joseph Curtis, Richard Curtis, Jr., Bernard Curtis, Leroy Curtis, Jean Curtis, Marvella Smith; Grandson: Carmen Johnson, Jr.; Parents: Richard and Geneva Brown-Curtis; Grandparents: Will and Cora Curtis; Raised also by Lionel and Bernice Bryant of Chicago.
Donald was born the 16th of March 1941 and attended a number of schools to include Elementary: Betsy Ross and James McCosh; High School: Englewood; College: Burlington County Community (NJ),Vincennes University (IN), Clover Park technical College (WA), and Tacoma Community College (WA) in which he majored in Human Services.
Military Service:
Donald entered the United States Army to serve his country continuously for 45 years. His military career extended from October 1961 to March 1986. His service included 3 tours in Germany; Combat in Vietnam, serving 2 tours. Among his many honors, awards and medals. He was awarded the Meritorious Service medal; The Bronze star; The Vietnam Cross of Gallantry; The Army Commendations Medal; and the Good Conduct medal with 6 Clusters.
While in the military Donald received the Lord as his personal savior, in which he dedicated his time serving as a deacon, a Senior deacon, a licensed Minister in 1980 and ministered in teaching the Word of GOD through-out the United States and Germany.
Tacoma, Washington:
Donald and his family moved to Tacoma, Washington in 1987, at the request of his longtime friend, Bessie William, whom he and his wife knew as a sister. Here in Tacoma Washington, Donald stayed busy ministering as an ordained Minister from GOD's Pentecostal Church. Additionally, Donald served as a lay Minister at the American Lake Veterans administrate. He spent his time visiting, praying, counseling, and ministering to those in need. He could almost always be found spreading the good news of the gospel and giving a kind word of encouragement. Donald was happy to support his wife as she worked as a self-employed day-care business owner. All while he expanded his responsibility at the V.A Chapel, under the leadership of Chaplain Jim Schonberg, whom he respected so very much.
Donald was a people’s man who loved his family and had many friends. His mindset was that he never met a stranger. Between 1997 – 2012, Donald volunteered full-time at the African American PTSD Associates, as Vice President. Donald helped countless Veterans, regardless of their background, to obtain all the benefits they worked so hard for. Donald worked closely with his good friend, Sid Lee and many others who are associated with this organization.
