Donald Patrick Bogrand's Obituary
Donald Patrick “Pat” Bogrand
April 11, 1935 – May 24, 2018
Donald Patrick Bogrand, known to friends as “Pat” passed away May 24, 2018 in Tacoma, Wa. He was born in Seattle on April 11, 1935 and grew up in Puyallup attending grade school at Spinning Elementary and graduating from Puyallup High School (Class of 1953). Dad joined the Army directly after graduation and served at Fort Lewis for two years. He then earned a degree in drafting at Tacoma Vocational-Technical Institute (Bates Technical College).
He started a long career at Washington Natural Gas as a draftsman, then later joined his brother Jack in building and growing Pipeline Construction Co., into a long-running successful gas utility business. Dad showed his strength and determination by pushing through, to its success and his. He was known not only as a “boss” but a true mentor and friend.
He was at his best on and around the water. In the early days you’d find our family gathering for overnight cook-outs and clam bakes on the family property in Shelton at Totten Inlet. In the '80s Dad purchased a 1934 Shane classic wood yacht, that he meticulously restored to its glory. He named her Etta Mae, after his beloved mother; it was his pride and joy. Dad brought so much joy to his family with boating trips every weekend to fish and explore the beauty the Pacific Northwest has to offer. You could often find him tooling around Commencement Bay and Puget Sound waterways. One of his favorite places to cruise was Quartermaster Harbor on Vashon Island. Many happy memories were made during these voyages.
Dad was so many things to so many people; a loving husband, supportive father, doting grandfather, awestruck great-grandfather, devoted brother and a wonderful friend. His smile was comforting, his eyes were warm and his laugh infectious. He had a quiet sense of humor that would send the world into laughter. He will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife Evelyn; children, Carrie (Mark) Butler, Tom Bogrand, Mitch (Teresa) Bogrand and Marcie Shannon; stepsons, Sid Sandidge and David Sandidge; twelve grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; his remaining sibling, Shirley (Harry) Wade, and countless nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Etta Mae and Roy Wellington Bogrand, his brothers, Roy (Bobbie) Bogrand and Jack (Gerry) Bogrand; sister, Sarah (Warner) Sawyer; and stepson Jody Sandidge.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, June 3rd at 2:00 PM at 10558 Havenwood Road SW, Port Orchard 98367. In lieu of flowers, check your oil and tire pressure – he would have wanted that.
We will always carry your memory in our hearts.
