Dona J Taylor's Obituary
Dona J. (Vogel) Taylor, 95, born 30 July 1926, in Tacoma, Washington, died on 26 March 2022, of natural causes. Dona graduated from Lincoln High School, class of 1945, and was married 7 May 1947, to James E. Taylor (United States Army, Retired), who preceded her in death after 49 years of marriage. James’ Army service took the couple to duty stations in Japan, Panama, and Germany, and they returned to retire in Tacoma, Washington, in 1965.
Dona is survived by her daughter Kathleen (Andy) Douvis of Tacoma, WA, her son James (Valerie) J. Taylor (United States Marine Corp, Retired), of Sneads Ferry, NC., her three grandsons: James Taylor, Ryan Taylor, and D.J. Birnie, and her son-in-law Don Birnie. She was preceded in death by her daughter Eileen (Jeff) Andrews. Dona had no sisters or brothers but considered members of her “Little Club” from high school as her family.
Dona lived for her family and loved babies, her in-laws, and her family friends. She also had a passion for politics, volunteer work, and the Mariners and Raniers. She loved watching D.J.’s baseball games and being his “wheels”. Dona volunteered at Madigan Army Hospital for 30 years and lovingly distributed books to patients every Wednesday with the library cart. She always thought that the U.S. Army was good to her family and the volunteer work was her way to pay back.
In honor of Dona’s request, there will be no funeral. Reading was her favorite pastime and she requests that in lieu of flowers, please buy a book for a young child, read it to them, and “think of her”.
