Don Lee Kitto's Obituary
Don Lee Kitto, born February 15, 1927; passed on to be with the Lord August 13, 2008. Don lived the majority of his life in Tacoma, Washington. He also lived in San Francisco for a short time. Don is predeceased by his parents, Leroy Kitto and Violet (Sprinkle) Kitto; his brothers, Russell, Keith, and Jack. Don is survived by his brother, Leroy Van Allen and his wife, Marilyn of Sidney, Ohio; nephews and nieces, John and his wife, Mary of University Place, Washington; Keith and his wife Flor of Tacoma, Washington; Terry and his wife, Brenda of Tyngsborough, Massachusetts, Linda and her husband, Larry Barnhart of Wenatchee, Washington; Sue and her husband Sam Webb of Lakewood, Washington; Carole and her husband Robert Watts of Belmont, New Hampshire; many great-nieces and great-nephews and his very dear friend Maurine Harm of Tacoma, Washington. Don is also survived by the numerous friends and acquaintances he made throughout his life living in the 6th Avenue business district.
Don graduated from Stadium High School in 1948. Don was a smart man and had been accepted at the College of Puget Sound, but lacking money, joined the U.S. Coast Guard instead. He was stationed in Port Angeles on a weather patrol gun boat with a weather station in the Bering Sea and another near Hawaii.
Don held many positions at a variety of places throughout his career including: American Can Company, Dietric Post newspaper, Romly Manufacturing and Macy's in San Francisco; Military Sea Transportation Service, Great Puget Sound Construction (Adak Alaska site), Superior Laundry, self-employed as a landscaper, and Bay View Oyster Company, and various restaurants such as the New Yorker, the Harvester, Top of the Ocean, Brown Star & Grill and Shoreline.
Don enjoyed viewing movies, the company of Maurine, walking and living in the 6th Avenue business district and was a special customer at the 6th & Pine Starbucks. He was also a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses where he had many friends who will miss him very much.
A graveside service will be at 2:30 PM on Tuesday, August 19th at Mountain View Memorial Park, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, Washington, with a memorial service at 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 23rd at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 804 N. State St., Tacoma, Washington.
An account under Don Kitto memorial fund to help the family with funeral expenses has been arranged and contributions may be made at any Washington Mutual branch.
