Don Berry's Obituary
The world lost a very special man. Don Berry passed away peacefully on June 28th, surrounded by family. He was born July 15, 1925, in Craigmont, Idaho to Earl and Edna (Giles) Berry. He graduated from Craigmont High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Don attended school at Biarritz America University in France after the war.
He married the love of his life, Marie Robertson, in 1946 and the couple enrolled in the University of Idaho where he graduated in 1949. They enjoyed 69 years of a loving marriage and enjoyed taking many wonderful trips together.
The couple founded Berry’s Department Store in Ellensburg, Washington in 1956. The company eventually expanded to Moses Lake, Sunnyside, and Cashmere.
Don is a past President of the Ellensburg Chamber of Commerce, the Ellensburg Rotary Club, and a member of Ellensburg Presbyterian Church Trustees.
Don and Marie retired in 1989, and moved to Vancouver, Washington while also enjoying winters in Phoenix, Arizona, and playing golf and tennis with their many friends.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Marie; Daughters – Jill Brownfield (Dayton) and Barbara Winn (Stacey); Grandchildren – Suzanne Faker (Eric), Michele Havard (Jeff), Brian Winn (Amanda), Adam Winn and Erin Winn; Great Grandchildren – Cole Faker, Erika Havard, Tim and Elaina Winn as well as his sister, Patricia Berry of Clarkston, Washington.
He was everything to our family. A kind, caring and generous man. He will be missed so much.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 25th at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association.
