Dolores M. (Chris) Hartley, SGM, Retired
It is with great sadness that I report that Chris has passed away. Chris was born in Portland, Oregon on August 20, 1941, and died on Tuesday morning, January 13, 2015 at Madigan Army Hospital, JBLM, WA.
She retired as a Sergeant Major, after serving 30 years in the US Army and has been residing in Roy, WA since 1989.
Chris is survived by her spouse, Cathleen M. Hennie, her sister, Lennie M. Hartley and numerous cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents; Alvin E. Hartley (1988) and Helena (Valla) Hartley (2002).
Among her many accomplishments ; she was the 17th female to graduate from Sergeant Major Academy and a Legion of Merit Recipient. She was a member of the American Legion for 22 years, the Honor Society of Women Legionnaires for 17years, and the Women’s Army Corp Association for over 30 years.
She enjoyed gardening, as well as woodworking in her workshop. She liked spending time on the coast searching for sand dollars, and exploring tidal pools. Chris loved to travel and explore new places, cultures and languages.
She will be missed by all her family and friends who loved and respected her.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at Mountain View Funeral Home, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood, WA, at 10 AM in the Celebration of Life Center, in the Aspen Chapel. Reception to follow at 11 AM to 12 PM.
Burial will be at 2 PM at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 Southeast 240th Street, Kent, WA. For directions call: (425)413-9614
Chris requested that Memorial Donations be made, in her name, to a Cancer Society of your choice. The family of SGM Hartley, wish to thank the medical staff and Palliative Care Team of Madigan Hospital for the care and concern shown to Chris and the family.
