Dolly Wade's Obituary
Dolly Faye Lewis Wade was born on July 21, 1934 in Athens, Louisiana. She departed this earthly life on May 18, 2013 while at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. Her demise is preceded by that of her parents, Earl and Jessie Mae Lewis, sisters, Earline Fomby, Carrie Harris, Bott Lewis, and son, Earnest Boyd, Jr. She leaves to mourn a loving, supportive and faithful husband of 50 years, Charlie Wade, Jr. of Lakewood, WA; daughter, Brenda (Alphonso) Belsito of Bradenton, FL; Rita (Clifton) Hamilton of Homer, LA; Delmar Wade of Lakewood, WA; Jessica Wade of University Place, WA; sisters Merdis Gordon of Galveston, TX; Beneatha Smith of Moline, IL; Christine Allen
(Paul) of San Francisco, CA; Nettie Evans (Jeffrey Maes) of Denver, CO; Estelle (Earnest) of Sibley, LA; 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Dolly accepted Christ at a young age and worshiped at Pt. Pleasant AME Church in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana and remained faithful to the very end. She attended Athens Negro High School, crowned Miss Homer, and later pursued higher education and obtained a nurses’ certification. She found nursing to be gratifying and thoroughly enjoyed this field for many years. During the earlier years of her fifty year union to Charlie, Dolly became a devoted military wife and later obtained a cashiers certificate after which she worked at McChord Air Force Base and Ft. Lewis Commissary where she met some of her closest and dearest friends.
Cooking, playing bingo, fishing and gardening were just a few of the past-times that provided her immense pleasure. Not only could she catch fish, she could also fry them up! Dolly was the epitome of a “people person” who never met a stranger, although family was the highlight of her life.
During the latter years of Dolly’s journey she experienced some health issues yet continued to bring that beautiful smile, encouraging words and wisdom to others.
