Diane Hayden Chick's Obituary
We lost the amazing Diane Chick on August
27th, 2021. She passed away peacefully in her sleep that morning, just shy of her 80th birthday. Diane is survived by her children Stephen (wife Tasha), Elizabeth (husband Cort) &
Brian, her brother George (wife Emily), Partner Nelson and grandchildren Alex, Signe, Ty, Ryder and Kaia.
We each remember Diane in our own way but we can all agree that she was a very polished, classy, funny, sassy and intelligent woman. She’d regularly show up in her well dressed attire with her iconic coral colored nail polish and matching lipstick. She was
a lighthearted and loving woman and when she laughed, she truly laughed (especially at everything Steve said). She had a way of always telling it like it is and everyone knew how she felt on a subject. Diane was an amazing conversationalist, sharing her latest
insights, perspectives and opinions.
She had a gift for words and was not
afraid to correct her family on the improper use of the language (Thank you, Mom!). Those of you that engaged with her in a rousing game of “Words with Friends” experienced this side of Diane. Her tattered scrabble book that she used regularly for these engagements
was a true testament for her love of the English language.
She loved her family and friends with
all her heart. Diane was a dedicated mother and grandmother spending quality time with all of her little ones; reading books, taking long walks and simply being together. She was there when you needed her most and had a calming touch that will be missed dearly.
Diane loved showing off her family to her friends as she was so proud of all of them. She would often invite Liz, Cort, Sig and Ty over on Halloween to share their costumes with her friends. She would share stories about Alex, Kaia, Ryder, Steve & Tasha with
her friends at Bridge or at the club.
Diane set an example for all of us by
living her strong morals and values and we are grateful for that. She was dedicated to her faith and was an active member within her church, St. Mary’s, where she enjoyed singing with each service. This passion for singing is one she shared with her eldest
granddaughter, Alex.
Diane wanted her children to grow up
with all kinds of different experiences and showed this by the plethora of pets that were welcomed into the house. This was anything from cats to dogs (surprise to Dad on that one), rabbits, rats, guinea pigs, birds and even the occasional garter snake that
Steve would bring home in a jar.
Diane was dedicated to her healthy lifestyle
and a creature of habit (there were timers for everything). She walked daily, ate well and believed fully in a healthy mind and body. Every meal for her children growing up was homemade and even on freshly warmed dinner plates. Now that being said, she was
always up for a good martini and dessert.
Diane was never one to lay around and
wait for things to happen. She experienced life to the fullest; always had an active social calendar from playing bridge with her friends, to connecting with family, volunteering, enjoying book club, knitting with the Knitwits, dinner and drinks at the club,
and her ongoing passion for travel. Her dedicated travel buddies (Nelson and her book club group) combined her passions of exploring the world and continuous learning.
While right now we say goodbye to our
lovely mom, sister, grandma, bridge player, traveler, Democrat, soccer mom/grandma, Lakewood mom, carpool driver, theater enthusiast, sometimes politically incorrect, and best friend; we celebrate the life of this wonderful human being that impacted all of
us and shaped who we are today and who we will become. We are so grateful for the time we got to share with her. We hope you are enjoying some relaxing time by the lake and a good martini with dad. We love you!
As we live in difficult times right now due to
our global pandemic, we opted for a small celebration of life with the immediate family. We have recorded the ceremony for you to view. Please click on this link to watch the celebration for Diane https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhrJUYe0mjg
