Our Dad was truly one of a kind! He was as masterful at yanking your chain to see your reaction, as he was at cooking gumbo! He could make you so angry and have you cracking up the next minute.
Many people remember him for his cooking! This was Dad's way of saying that he loved you. He put 'his foot' in everything he cooked and provided countless delicious meals to more family and friends than can be counted. He and my Mom had the family come over every Sunday for dinner until they could no longer do it. Once they couldn't cook anymore we took over-much to his displeasure- cause the food rarely lived up to his expectation! (Did I mention RARELY?). In his heart we know it wasn't really about the food- it was about family. Well maybe it was a little about the food!
He really liked kids and animals and they liked him too! Upon first meeting they were sometimes taken aback by his size and loud deep voice (the kids and animals), but were quickly won over by his silly dancing, jokes or food. (Kids for the dancing and jokes, but the animals loved the food too!) He could be a real softie -when he wanted to be. His grands and great grands certainly know that!
Our parents lived through the depression era, racism, 6 major wars, the invention of television ( Dad's favorite), sunglasses, bubblegum, penicillin, shopping carts, the microwave, the remote control ( Dad's second favorite), barbie dolls, the civil rights movement, the computer, the personal computer, cell phones, the internet, google (which helped me with this list), 15 presidents-including the first African American President, (which they never thought that they would see in their lifetime), 7 kids, 11 grand kids, 14 great grand kids, and the loss of countless family members and friends. I am exhausted just thinking about all of the ups, downs and changes that they saw throughout their years on this planet!
My Dad is now with our Mother, whom he missed so much, my sister Annie, his parents, brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces, nephews and numerous friends- including his Ace #1-"Bub". We are all so sad to see him leave us, but rejoice in his new perfect life!
All My Love & Respect
