Deoris J. Carrere's Obituary
Deoris Joyce Carrere, loving "Mother Dear" and prominent Tacoma resident joined our heavenly father on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at 12:45 AM. She preserved the will of life with dedicated love to her children, family, church and friends. Her service to the community was untouchable, working in city government, assisting at nursing centers, food banks, and lending a hand to all in need.The daughter of Lee Grant Rogers Sr. and Lucy May Rogers-Kelly; 'Dee' was born on May 29, 1939 in Tallahassee, Florida. The family moved to Tacoma, Washington in 1942 becoming active at the Allen AME Church. Graduating from Stadium High School, she successfully became a licensed registered nurse for St. Joseph's Hospital. She became the first African American meter maid for the City of Tacoma, and continued to pursue a 33 year career with the Department of Human Development. Deoris was an active member of social organizations including the Order of the Eastern Stars and the Matron's Club.Deoris leaves behind her three sons, Keith Carrere, Kevin Carrere, and Kraig Carrere; brothers Lee Grant Rogers Jr. and Rodney Rogers; grandchildren Karmin Carrere and Keilen Carrere; her loving mother "Sweet Lucy"; and numerous close friends and companions, including her loving kitty cat 'Einstein'.
