Dennis Shirley 1921 - 2008
Dennis Shirley, son of Gena and Ed Shirley, was born November 17, 1921 in Christine, ND and grew up in Fargo. While stationed in Pueblo, CO during WW II, he met Rosalie DeWeese. They married after a courtship of 2 weeks and moved to Tacoma in 1942. Rosalie died in 2006, just after their 63rd wedding anniversary. Dennis loved being with his family, enjoyed sunshine, camping and dancing. His sense of humor came through in both good times and bad. He died on July 2 with his children by his side. He was preceded in death by grandson Mark Symes, brothers Jerry and Al, sister-in-law Glady Shirley, and his cat Sam. He leaves behind his children, Sandi (Ken) Turner, Diana Shirley (Richard) Merrill, Dennis (Laurie) Shirley, Stacy Shirley (Jeff) Lundemo, grandchildren Shawn (Becky) Symes, Nick (Liz) Merrill, Anna Rose Merrill and Mike Shirley, great-grandchildren Logahn Sue, Corbin, Matt, Samantha, Ben, Sarah and Katelyn, sister Margie (Robert) McMains, sister-in-law Helen Shirley, and nieces and nephews who loved him too.
