Delphine Hallgren's Obituary
Delphine Hallgren, 97, of Tacoma, WA passed peacefully on November 6. Born January 1, 1921 in St. Cloud, MN. She joins her husband, James Hallgren, of 72 years of marriage after having lived a very full life. Survived by her only child JoAnn Larsen (Darell), granddaughter, Kelli Hodges (John), grandson, Ryan Larsen (Deborah) and her six great-grand children (all from Tacoma). A celebration of her life service will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 1315 N. Stevens, Tuesday, December 18 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Emmanuel Lutheran Church & Tacoma Pierce County Humane Society.
Nana was the loving grandmother who could make the perfect apple pie and famous potato salad, and who would buy much anticipated Christmas Eve pajamas for her 6 great grandchildren every year. She was a Rosie the Riveter during WW2, achieving the highest level as a welder while working on aircraft carrier decks in the Port of Tacoma. She was the only woman to reach this position. She also worked as a high clearance telephone operator, connecting calls from military base commanders to the White House during the war. Del was lucky to live at home, enjoy her beautiful landscaped yard, feed the birds and drive to her weekly hair appointment up until her last days.
