Deloris L. Penn's Obituary
Deloris "Dee" Lucille Penn went to be with our Lord and Savior on May 16, 2019 at the age of 82. Dee was born March 16, 1937 in Bottineau, North Dakota. The daughter of Malvin and Ethel Gerjets, Dee grew up on a farm in Maxbass, North Dakota. Dee was the oldest of 3 children; brother Larry and sister Maryls.
In 1953, Dee, working as a waitress in Mohall, North Dakota, met her future husband, Noble Penn. The two were united in marriage on July 31, 1954. The couple was married for more than 51 years until Noble’s passing in December 2005.
Dee and Noble had three children; Barry, Sherry, and Cheryl. During the first 12 years of their life together the family resided in North Dakota, Washington, and Montana. After losing their home in a tornado, the couple decided to settle near Seattle and raise their children in the South Hill area of Puyallup, Washington in 1966.
Dee had a love for people. Soon after the family settled in Puyallup, Dee began working as a grocery checker at Hi Ho Grocery downtown Puyallup, which was located on the corner of Meridian and River Road. Dee worked at Hi Ho until the mid 1970’s. A Kmart store opened in Puyallup and Dee worked there for more than a decade. Co-workers became long time friends; Harriet and Beth to name a few.
For many years Dee thoroughly enjoyed the camaraderie of Saturday night card parties playing such games as “Cheat your Neighbor”, Aggravation, and Rummy. She took delight in playing board and card games with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. When visiting Dee it was common to see a deck of cards in her hands or on her table. If she wasn’t playing cards with someone, she would be playing solitaire. Over the last few years she advanced to the enjoyment of playing solitaire and other assorted games on her computer.
If you were to have breakfast during the week at Denny’s on South Hill Puyallup, you would likely see Dee hanging out with her friends of “The Old Gummers Breakfast Club”. She enjoyed the many conversations with her Denny’s friends.
Dee was a proud Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and Great Great Grandmother and will be sorely missed by them all!
