Deloris L. Pease's Obituary
Deloris L. Pease
Deloris peacefully passed away on July 14, 2012 at Pioneer Place Memory Haven. She was 91 years old.
She was born on February 24, 1921 in Tacoma, as the only child of George and Ida Grubb. When she was 3 years old the family settled in rural Puyallup where she spent a happy childhood and attended school until she graduated from Puyallup High School in 1939.
She attended Western Washington for one year, but returned home to complete her teaching degree at Pacific Lutheran College in 1942. It was during these years at PLC that she met and briefly dated Marvin Pease, before he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served overseas in WW II. She was in her second year of teaching when he returned home in December of 1943 and showed up on her front door. They dated again for a short time, but this time they fell in love, and were married in Galveston, Texas, six months later!
They settled in Tacoma where she became a stay at home mom raising two daughters before resuming her teaching career in Tacoma. She taught kindergarten for 20 years at many different elementary schools before retiring.
In addition to her love of teaching, she loved all things creative. She was a gifted artist, talented seamstress and tailor, master gardener and wonderful cook!
She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church, serving for many years as a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher, Bible study leader, and was an active in the Mariners.
She and Marv loved to travel. They frequently visited Hawaii, spent several active years as "snowbirds" in Arizona, traveled the United States by car, and enjoyed cruising to many Caribbean and European ports. She was preceded in death by Marvin, her beloved husband of 66 years. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many.
She is survived by daughters Claudia (David) Pease of Tacoma, Marilyn (Frank) Gaffrey of Vancouver, and granddaughter Michelle (Tim) Paulsen of Lake Tapps. The family would like to sincerely thank the caregivers from Visiting Angels! and Pioneer Place Memory Haven for the kind and compassionate care they provided for Deloris.
Funeral Services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 5236 East "B" Street, Tacoma, WA, at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, August 8, 2012. All are welcome. Donations suggested to Alzheimer's Association .
