Delfin Recardo Ramos' Obituary
Delfin Recardo Ramos, 76 years old, passed away surrounded by his loving family on February 15, 2016. Del was born on April 21, 1939 to Agustin and Jesusa Ramos at Clark Air Base, Pampanga, Philippines.
With great courage, Delfin first arrived in San Francisco at the age of 19. He served in the United States Air Force from 1960-1971 achieving the rank of Staff Sargent. Along the way, Del married his childhood classmate, Nelly Calantoc. With a growing family, Delfin drove across the country to move to Connecticut so that Nelly could finish medical residency. While pioneering “stay at home Dad,” he also went to college and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work. Many wonderful friendships were formed on the East coast.
Dr. Nelly’s medical career brought the family to Oregon. Once again, Del drove the children on an adventurous journey through many states to learn about the country. He valued education and attended Portland State University for his graduate studies. Delfin had the ambition to open a business and moved to Tacoma, WA to create Del’s Oriental Food Mart. He was a hardworking, creative businessman focused on taking care of his customers.
Delfin survived a seven vessel by-pass open heart surgery in 1988. Not ready for a permanent vacation, Del worked for the City of Tacoma as a Compliance Officer for over a decade before retiring. Nelly and Del enjoyed their retirement years travelling together around the world.
Del was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was a devout Catholic and his generosity to the community touched many. He cared deeply for his family and friends, extending a helping hand to others along the way.
Delfin is survived by his loving wife, Nelly. His children Jenette & Chris; Christopher; Susan & Ralph; and Cherry Ann & Mark. His grandchildren Ariel, Mackenzie, Gillian, Thomas, Louden, Brendan, Liam, and Luke. Del’s siblings: Rufino, Loreto, Amelita, Ester, Agustin Jr., Rodrigo, Violeta and Milagros.
Thank you Dad for giving us the gift of Love and teaching us Courage, Integrity, & Passion! You will be dearly missed by your family and friends.
