Deanna Jean Green's Obituary
Deanna Jean Kassner was born January 20, 1938 to Glenn Kassner and Vivian (Hilden), both pioneer families from Kent/Renton. Her early days were spent with her Finnish grandparents in the Soos Creek area of Kent and later in the Kennydale/Hazelwood areas of Renton. Deanna enjoyed swimming in Lake Washington and Lake Young and other activities with her many cousins. Her parents owned a grocery store on Lake Washington Blvd. in the Hazelwood area, and Deanna shared the time Eleanor Roosevelt stopped by for gasoline as well as stories of the coal miners of Newcastle during WW2.
Deanna married young at 17 to James Green and they proceeded to have ten children. While young parents, they suffered the unimaginable losses of their oldest son Jimmy- killed by a car walking home from school in 1964, and son , Douglas, of SIDS in 1961 as an infant.
Throughout all the tragedies and hardships, Deanna did her best to mother her other eight children, sacrificing much more than we can acknowledge. Deanna infused the family with laughter and a love of music and learning. She made dollars stretch and could often be found `thrifting’ to help make ends meet while being generous to others in need. She had her own sense of style which paired with a little color (lipstick) always made her look unique and confident. She could pull off outfits no one else could wear and do it with style and confidence. She was a wonderful mother attending whenever she could concerts and athletic events, taking much pride in all her children.
After spending many years as a homemaker, Deanna joined Group Health Cooperative and worked at the Eastside Redmond hospital as a Central Supply Tech for 30 years until she retired at 70. Deanna moved to assisted living in the Bremerton area in 2018, after experiencing some significant health issues. She made many new friends there and is remembered fondly for her beautiful smile and sense of style.
.She was a wonderful aunt to many nieces and nephews. Like many women of her generation, Deanna had many dreams that were unfulfilled, yet she carried on.
Deanna leaves behind her sister , Jane Moyer, her children-Kate Welch, Curtis Green, Maureen Green,Beth La Fontaine, Jennifer Green, Victoria Green and Tammara Green and their wonderful spouses. She was proud of all of them. Her grandchildren include Lauren Hall, Morgan Underhill, Jacqueliine Green, Sharon Green, Alex Clark, Victoria Ledezma , Araya, Will and Hannah Mitchell as well as great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by sons Jimmy, Douglas and John , as well as husband Jim Green.
