Dean B. McCoy's Obituary
Dean McCoy, age 77, died peacefully on Friday, June 10, 2005 after a courageous battle against Non-HodgkinÂ's Lymphoma. The McCoy family would like to thank Dr. David Aboulafia, Dr. Paul Smith and all the Virginia Mason staff for their excellent care during DeanÂ's illness.Born July 12, 1927 in Tacoma, Washington, Dean graduated from Lincoln High School of Tacoma in 1945 and entered the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Saipan. He returned stateside after discharge, enrolling at the College of Puget Sound in Tacoma (now University of Puget Sound). In 1952 he began a 36 year teaching career in Seattle Public Schools. In the mid 1950Â's Dean completed his Masters Degree in Education at Columbia University, New York and in 1955, he met Irene Martin while teaching at Gatewood Elementary School in West Seattle. They married in 1957 beginning a joyous wedded life of 47 years.DeanÂ's passions in life were his family, church, friends, traveling and gardening. He was a gracious host to many visitors throughout the years and was well-known by relatives, friends, and exchange students for sharing the gift of hospitality. Dean is survived by his wife, Irene; daughters, Dr. Jennifer McCoy and Ellen Johanson; son, Clive McCoy; granddaughter, Rachel Johanson and many other close relatives. A memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2005 at Tibbetts United Methodist Church, 3940 41st Avenue SW, Seattle, WA 98116. Memorials may be given to Tibbetts United Methodist Church, your local hospice agency, or to Wesley Homes Foundation, 815 S. 216th Street, Des Moines, WA 98198 for the Â"Greatest NeedÂ" fund.
