David Gumataotao Tuncap's Obituary
David Gumataotao Tuncap was born in Anigua on October 5, 1955 to Manuel and Catalina (Gumataotao) Tuncap on the Island of Guam, where David resided until 1985. While residing on Guam David attended Adelup Elementary, Agueda Johnston Middle School and graduated from JFK High School and attended the University of Guam. David enlisted in The U.S. Air Force where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He began his Air Force career as an administrative specialist base information system. He was medically retired in 1993 during his 18th year of Honorable and Faithful service. After his retirement David was employed by the US Postal Service, where at 19 years of dedication he retired from the US Postal service. David fell in love and married the love of his life Violeta T. San Nicolas on January 29, 1977 in Asan, Guam. Together they raised two sons Davey and Mikey. The entire family has resided in Guam, Shemya, Alaska, Mississippi and Washington. David was a member of the McChord Chapel, St. John Bosco and Sacred Heart Churches for 30 years. He prayed over his grandsons daily and his favorite phrase was "Ti ma maigu si yu’us." "God Never Sleeps.” His special friends are Bill Brady, Mike Banghart, Mike Cruz, Pete Velasco, John Aguon, Ben Salas, Warner Acido & Larry Sablan. David belonged to the Rock Island Band and Guam Chamorros softball team. David had many special events in his life including marrying his high school sweet heart Violeta Terese, witnessing the births of his sons and grandsons, his son’s graduations from UW & UC Berkeley & retiring from the USPS & USAF. He was a latte stone foundation for his family’s Chamoru culture, known for inafa’maolek, by being the most loving generous, hard-working and humble man. David loved to BBQ with his nephews and grandsons, winning Texas Hold'em at his home and playing his favorite games at the Muckleshoot Casino. David is survived by his wife Violeta of Lakewood, WA, Sons Davey Lee Tuncap of Seattle, WA, Michael Anthony Tuncap of Lakewood, WA, Robert Wilmette of Seattle, WA, Daughter Carmen Ramento Tuncap of Lakewood, WA, grandsons Elijah Gumataotao Tuncap & Matua Gillett Manaba Acfalle Tuncap of Lakewood, WA, Brothers, Joaquin Gumataotao Tuncap who resides in MI, Jospeh Gumataotao Tuncap of Anigua, Guam, CMSgt Michael Phelps who resides in TX, Sister Catherine Tuncap Salas of Anigua, Guam and Maria Tom of Maina, Guam.
