David P. Simula
1932 - 2016
He had a good life. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, David Peter Simula peacefully left this life at home on Friday, October 14, 2016.
David was born April 30, 1932 in San Francisco, California to parents John and Helen Simula. He grew up with his 3 sisters, Beatrice, Estelle and Maryann, in San Francisco. David attended Galileo High School, then proudly served in the United States Air Force and Army, where he traveled the world. David served his country honorably in the Vietnam War.
David married his surviving wife, Sue, on Oct. 27, 1965. They started a family and moved to Washington State; first to Fort Lewis, then settled in Tacoma. After retiring from the Army in 1978, David worked as a bus driver for Pierce Transit, where he retired in 1998.
David was an avid reader and lover of all types of good music and movies. He enjoyed his home, finding joy in spending time with his wife and family and watching sports, especially the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners.
David will be remembered for his abundant love for his family and country, his strong, independent character, and his lively sense of humor.
David is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sue, son David (Amanda), daughter Michelle (Joe), granddaughters Jessica and Sarah, sister Maryann Armstrong (Jim), nephews Bill Borelli and Steve Armstrong, nieces Elizabeth Grant Hailey, Linda Caspino, and Lisa Armstrong, grandnephews Chris Borelli, Daniel Borelli, Johnathon Borelli and Mark Grant, grandnieces Eleana Caspino, Julie Allen, Sheree Allen and many good friends.
David’s family wishes to extend a sincere thanks to Madigan physicians, Dr. James Bales and Dr. Herbert Kwon, Franciscan Hospice and all our family and friends who generously shared their love and prayers.
Memorial Service and reception will be at Mountain View on Tuesday, October 25 at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Lung Association.
