David O’Neal was born March 11, 1935 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He was the youngest of 15 children born to George and Zora O’Neal.
He attended Merrill High School (Diploma) and AM&N College (Bachelor’s Degree) in Pine Bluff, California State University Los Angeles and University of Southern California (Master’s Degree).
He served in the United States Army and then began a career as a school teacher where he taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District for over 35 years before he retired.
David married Barbara Jean Price on January 24, 1960 and from this union were born 4 children, Ray (deceased), Michael, David and Davina. David and Barbara raised their family in Los Angeles. In 2006, after retirement, they moved to DuPont, Washington.
David loved the Lord and spent most of his life sharing his love of Christ with everyone he knew. He was ordained as a lay pastor and served the church and the community for the greater portion of his life. He also had a passion for singing and praising the Lord.
David was a devoted husband of 55 years to Barbara and a loving father and grandfather. He had a special bond with all six of his grandchildren and a close relationship with his brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife Barbara; sons Michael (Lucia) and David; daughter Davina (Jerry) Clardy; grandchildren Leah, Jaden, Noelle, Kaila, Mya and Olivia; brother Clifton O’Neal; sisters Zephyr Ward, Mary Rose Kearney, Minnie Miller, Thelma Gaston; and a host of loved ones including in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.
