David Jones' Obituary
Many great things can be said about this man of few words who lived his life fully with honor and devotion.David Jones was born on February 10, 1928 in Wynn, Arkansas to the union of Bessie Givens Jones & Jimmie Jones. There were 3 children, David, Ellamae, and Addie Turner in the family. David passed away peacefully on April 1, 2003David decided to enlist in the Army in his first journey away from home. It was during this tour of duty that he met his future wife, Elizabeth. He was later shipped out to Puerto Rico. After some time, he received his discharge from the army and returned to Arkansas. From all indication he longed to return to military service and this time he joined the air force. The itch to return to the military may not have been his only reason to leave Arkansas. It appears that he still longed fro Â"Liz.Â" She had known military life owing to the fact that her father and relatives were career military. From all indications David got reacquainted with Â"LizÂ" while again in the military. After that he also did another 31 years at Fort Lewis Commissary where he retired in 1991.He and Elizabeth Sullinger were married on September 22, 1956 in Junction City, KS. To that union two children were born, David Â"GunnerÂ" Jr, and Jennifer. Liz and David spoiled each other, however, each complained how the other had been spoiled. They had a beautiful life. David lived for his family. He was a devoted husband and father; military was second. David and Liz knew each other for 54 years and were married for 45 of those years before Liz passed away on April 10, 2001.David received numerous awards and citations in recognition of his military service. His career took him to many places and he learned many different jobs. In spite of this he loved being a cook more than his love for other jobs, for the most part his unit commanders were reluctant to see him transferred, maintaining that he was a Â"Franchise Player.Â" He also loved his hobbies, stained glass, woodwork, and rocks with which he did a lot of beautiful things with.A man of few words but great deeds, he crossed over on April 1, 2003 joining his wife, father and mother, 2 sisters Ellamae Jones & Addie Turner, and other relatives that preceded him to glory.He leaves behind David Jr. and Jennifer his children; Darlyn Hinton his neice; Mamie Guidry his sister-in-law and her husband Peter, and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and an army of wonderful friends.Viewing will be on Friday, April 11th from 11am to 9pm at Mountain View Funeral Home, Tacoma.Services will be at 1pm, Saturday April 12, 2003 in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home.
