David John Van Hulle's Obituary
David John Van Hulle
Dave passed away on January 1, 2009. He was surrounded by his family and slipped peacefully away as they reminisced and retold many of the stories for which he was well known. Born on January 10, 1929, in Oconto, Wisconsin, he and his eleven siblings lived on a dairy farm where he learned the value of hard work. He joined the United States Air Force, which brought him to the Pacific Northwest where he met and married Anna Roller in 1952. After leaving the Air Force, Dave continued to work as a civilian in Base Supply at McChord Air Force Base. He was community-service oriented, especially through the Waller Road Grange, which he helped build and establish. He served in many offices for the local and state Granges, and his absence will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ella Van Hulle, four brothers, infant daughter Rebecca, and many lifelong friends. He is survived by his wife of fifty-six years, Anna, daughter Cindy, son Tim (Jennifer), and granddaughters Becky Van Hulle, Katie (Alex) Layton, and seven brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be held at Saint John of the Woods Catholic Church on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at 11:00 AM with a reception following at the Waller Road Grange. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pierce County Grange Scholarship Fund or the Waller Road Grange.
