David John Thorp's Obituary
David Thorp was a life-long resident of the Tacoma area. He was born and raised in Tacoma, graduating from Stadium High School and Pacific Lutheran College. He taught art and special education for 28 years in the Clover Park School District before retiring in 1982. David had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Parkland for over 50 years.David was devoted to his family, especially his wife Barbara who preceded him in death in 2000. They enjoyed traveling, spending time with their four grandchildren and sitting side-by-side in the evening together. They had been married 47 years. David also loved gardening and looking for a new rhododendron or azalea. His art work is treasured by family and friends, especially oil paintings of the Northwest landscape.Also preceding David in death were his mother and father, Theodore andFrances Thorp and his brother, Selmer Â"BudÂ" Thorp. He is survived by adaughter Deanna Nowadnick, her husband Kurt and grandsons, Kyle andKevin, all of Monroe, Washington and a son, David Thorp, Jr., his wifeChristy and granddaughters Rachel and Hannah, all of Westerville, Ohio.He is also survived by a sister, Thelma Robbins.DavidÂ's friendship will be missed by all. He loved to visit over a cup of coffee, breakfast Monday morning or while standing in the front yard. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday, December 31, 2002 at 1 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 12115 Park Ave South, Tacoma, WA 98444 or Thorp Memorial Adoption Fund.
