David J. George's Obituary
David George, of Tacoma, passed away of age related causes July 30, 2017 just 13 days after
celebrating his 90th birthday by sharing pecan pie with family and friends.
Born July 17, 1927in Bellevue, Texas, he spent his childhood picking cotton in West Texas before enlisting in theU.S. Air Force at age 20 and relocating to McCord Air Force base in Tacoma. He spent the next69 years raising his family and making Tacoma his home. After his honorable discharge in1950, he worked a variety of jobs and ultimately retired from working in the area of
transportation for the State of Washington as a driver for 23 years. His hobbies included metal
detecting and deep sea salmon fishing.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Steilacoom and Trinity Baptist church which he attended faithfully. He will be remembered by family, friends, and caregivers as a kind and generous man who never complained or wanted to “trouble anyone.”
David was preceded in death by his beloved wife Catherine after being married for 62 years
and looked forward to being reunited with her in heaven. He is survived by his two daughters Carolyn and Linda (Stan), his “third daughter” Barbara; 5 grandchildren Mike (Lisa), Steve (Sara), Alina (Sam), Aaron, and Alison; and 7 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 6 at 11:30 at the Valley Chapel at Mountain
View Funeral Home with gravesite burial to follow.
