David John Gago's Obituary
David John Gago Of Lakewood passed away September 24, 2014 at the age of 85, after a short battle with cancer. He was born January 8, 1929 in Fairfax, WA. He is survived by his bride of 64 years, Joyce (Bjelland) Gago. He is also survived by his daughters Carrie Gago, Jamie Gago and Jodi (Chris) Merrywell and his son Darin (Marcy) Gago; grandchildren David and Hailey Gago, and Alex and Katie Merrywell. He graduated from Stadium High School in 1947. After graduation, he was hired by the City of Tacoma and then served in the Army. Upon his return, he was hired back by the City of Tacoma. He then went to work for the Town of Fircrest but finished his career with Pierce County. For many years, he was Pierce County's Budget Director and then assumed the role of Executive Assistant under County Executive Booth Gardner. He retired from the County when he was 55, allowing him and Joyce to travel and play golf. He was very loyal to his family, friends and co-workers. He believed in working hard and had high expectations of himself and everyone around him. When you met him, you instantly liked him. He would usually greet you with a joke or two; his goal was to make people smile. We lost one of the good guys but he will remain in our hearts forever. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Dave's name to the American Heart Association (donate.heart.org) or The American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org). Remembrances may be shared at www.mountainviewtacoma.com. A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 3, 2014 at Fircrest Golf Club (1500 Regents Blvd Fircrest, WA 98466).
