David Anthony Chyatte's Obituary
David Anthony Rocco Chyatte, MD, 35, was born on January 6, 1985, in Rochester, Minnesota. He was called home on September 2, 2020 in Olympia, Washington.
A graduate of Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, David studied medicine at St. George’s University, where he graduated with high honors and completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Arizona. In addition to his professional accomplishments, David was an ordained minister and gave his time to numerous charity and relief efforts. Such efforts included his work at a free clinic in the Caribbean during medical school, helping thousands of people in the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Tsunami, and for several years volunteering with the PMBL Treasure Beach Jamaican Youth Basketball Camp as the official camp doctor. He was a world traveler, lover of all music, especially vinyl, and had a great passion for the outdoors.
One of his greatest gifts was that of love and dedication to his family and loved ones. He embraced his role as a son, brother, uncle, partner, and friend. He was able to find positivity where many people could not and always added humor to every situation. He believed in living life to its fullest, absorbing all the knowledge around him, and leaving his mark of peace and love on everything and everybody he knew.
David is survived by his paternal grandmother Josephine Chyatte, parents Dr. Douglas and Debra Ann Chyatte, sisters Michelle Renee Chyatte and Mary Danielle Chyatte, his brother-in-law, Sowadi Chea, his brother Douglas Joseph Chyatte, sister-in-law Kate Chyatte, nieces Montana Chyatte and Mirabelle Chea, nephews Max and Makoto (aka Avocado) Chea and Clayton Chyatte, his uncle Mike Kelly, his cousins, Michael Kelly and Amy Brogan, and his fiancé, Jess Bursey.
In lieu of flowers, we ask donations be made to David’s charity of choice: Friends of the PMBL Treasure Beach Jamaican Youth Basketball Camp, which has graciously created a scholarship in David’s honor.
The Coach Doc Scholarship Fund > https://tinyurl.com/yxw6oqwo will directly provide room, board and transportation for deserving campers from underserved areas of Jamaica. Additionally, funds raised on David’s behalf will be contributed to the general development fund (transportation, meals, equipment) as we are expecting upwards of 1200 campers in 2021.
