David Downey Burgess Sr.'s Obituary
David Downey Burgess Sr., age 73, of Puyallup, WA, passed away on October 24, 2023 after his courageous battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years of marriage, Myong Sun Burgess; sons, David Downey Burgess Jr. and Scott Alan Davidson; daughters, Teresa May Davidson and Ashley Ann Pruitt; and grandsons, Asa Downey Burgess and Koa Warren Burgess.
David was born in Marlington, West Virginia, on April 3, 1950, to his late father, Asa David Burgess, and late mother, Lillie Mae Burgess. David grew up in a large family, with five sisters and two brothers, in the hills of the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia.
David was drafted into the military in 1968, at the age of 18. During his time in the army, David served two terms in Vietnam from 1968 to 1969, and again from 1970 to 1971. David made a career of the army as a Field Artillery Specialist, serving our great nation for twenty-two years and retiring in 1990.
David continued living his life serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as a member and brother of the New Life Presbyterian Church. He also volunteered his time at the American Lakes Veterans Golf Course and Tacoma Sportman's Club Archery Range. David was a selfless man, and was always there to lend a helping hand witout any reservation.
David's first love and passion was his family. His family always came first in his everyday life. Outside of that was his love for the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, and the mountains ran through his bloodline. The respect he had for others is the same respect he had for the land and nature. As David was aging, and hunting the mountain ranges grew harder, David found a new passion, and that was golf. If you didn't know where David was, nine times out of ten he was on the fairways.
David was a very honorable man who lived his life with passion and integrity. He lived by his word, and was a man you could always count on - one of those people that felt good to be around. David will be missed immensely by so many. Even though the Lord has blessed us with 73 years, 73 more still wouldn't have been long enough.
God bless you David, and thank you for your love and friendship.
