David Bernell Furlong's Obituary
David B. Furlong
8/7/1920 - 4/5/2010
"He is not here; he has risen."
Beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, David Bernell Furlong passed away April 5th. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, and his daughter Patricia Jane. Dad was born at 10:15pm in Ganette, Idaho to Lyman and Alice (Tilley) Furlong. Dad and Mom were married January 11th, 1943 in Vancouver, Washington. Their witnesses were Lyman Furlong, his father, and Louella Gregory, Mom's mother. They enjoyed 61 years together of fishing at Lake Curlew, camping, traveling in their trailer, and clam digging. Anything with the outdoors was theirs to cherish as long as they were with each other. David served in WWII and was involved in many battles while serving time for his country. He was in battles in Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Dad received the American Service Medal. Good Conduct Medal, and European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal. He worked in the refrigeration department for Fort Lewis for over thirty years and retired a foreman of that department. He took great pride in the quality and reliability of his work and received many commendations and awards during his career.
He is survived by two daughters, Carol Heim (Milt) of Woodinville and Sharon Budinich (Bill) of Gig Harbor, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Our prayers are that he is now with Mom, and they will forever be able to cuddle at night and share their memories with each other over and over. We know how much he missed her. Eternity is theirs now to share. Have fun, Mom and Dad. It is time for you to both be with each other. Carol Ann and I will miss you, Dad. As we both reflected the other day, "You kept us honest." You did, Dad, be proud of that. David's family would like to thank the staff at Laurel House for making it his home and also thank the nurses and doctors at St. Anthony's of Gig Harbor, who made our dad's final few days of suffering be painfree and filled with dignity and compassion.
Funeral service for Dad will be at Mountain View in the Garden Chapel at 11:00 am April 10, 2010. A lunch reception will follow in the Oak Room at Mountain View.
