I met Darlene through her best friend, Twila Johnson, when they had just adopted their two baby boys. And what beautiful boys they were! In later years after Darlene retired, she was a substitute teacher in my classroom many times and I would specifically request her to be my sub. Unfortunately for me, so did many other teachers. With all of her vast experience, I never had to worry for one moment about the students when I needed to be absent and Darlene was my sub. She was always professional, so very capable, and she was kind. She had a wonderful understanding of children. My sincere condolences to Darlene's family, especially her son Ryan, her best friend Twila Johnson, and Justin Johnson. I wish I had the words to heal your broken hearts.
